General Information

Stewart State Forest up in Newburgh, NY is a good destination for many of the North Jersey locals as well as some of the Central Jersey folk. With an abundant trail network, those who know the park can easily do a 30+ mile day up there without doubling back on themselves. maddawg and the Dark Horse Cycles crew have done a fantastic job up there and currently run 3 races, the signature Dark Horse 40, the new SingleSpeed-A-Palooza, and the H2H race, the Dark Horse Gallop. New for this year will be the Dark Horse 6-Pack, a 6 hour endurance race.
The trails in Stewart are not marked in any traditional manor. Many of them have names derived from local lore. Trails such as Sara's Trail and Brain's Trail get their names from George at Dark Horse Cycles two children. Major Mike is named after a team member who has since moved to Pennsylvania. Others such as Dead Deer, [[Art's Intestinal Blowout], the s*** trail and the F'n F'd up trail derive there names from, well its pretty obvious. The gang at Dark Horse Cycles sells a laminated map which will get you around quite nicely. There are also miles of "off the grid" trails to explore. With miles of "rolling" singletrack, doubletrack, and gravel roads Stewart offers an enjoyable riding destination for riders of many levels.

Routes

Rider: Norm
Description: Darkh Horse 40 race loop (2009). 4 laps of 10 miles each. This is the driest loop in the park as it was designed to be able to hold up to all these racers after a summer of rains.
